Hot Spot draws every 4 minutes from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM daily. You can play 1 to 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 consecutive draws on a single playslip, which is the widest multi-draw range of any state keno game we track.
Hot Spot is sold at participating California Lottery retailers statewide, including many bars, restaurants, convenience stores and grocery stores. Fill out a Hot Spot playslip or ask for a Quick Pick, choose your wager and number of draws, and the retailer prints your ticket. California is also unusual in having a large parallel tribal casino keno scene, which runs under different rules and paytables from the lottery game.

Bulls-eye needs no separate number picks. One of the 20 drawn numbers is designated the Bulls-eye, and if it falls among your selected numbers the Bulls-eye prize table applies. The wager must equal your Hot Spot wager, so a $4 play splits into $2 Hot Spot and $2 Bulls-eye. That equal-split structure is worth noting: your effective base stake is half what you handed over.
Smaller prizes are normally paid straight back at the retailer that sold the ticket, and larger ones go through a lottery claim center or a mail-in claim. California is the exception worth knowing on tax: the California Lottery does not withhold state tax and Hot Spot prizes are not subject to California state income tax at all. Federal rules still apply: the California Lottery withholds 24% for the IRS on prizes over $5,000.
